Home ownership Program
Longview Housing Authority (LHA) in partnership with the City of Longview (using HOME Funds), are assisting low-income families in obtaining homeownership counseling, down payment and closing cost assistance, and help in purchasing their first home.
Families participating in the program will be selected on program eligibility verification and first come, first mortgage ready basis. Families not selected for the current program will be placed on a waiting list for future opportunities in order of application received.
How Do I Participate in the Program?
Participation in the Highlands Homeownership Program is voluntary and each participant must meet the following eligibility requirements:
1. Low Income Family - Homeowners are required to verify that their income meets low income limits as set forth by HUD (80% of Median Income).
2. First-time Homeowner - A "first-time homeowner" means that no member of the household has had an ownership interest in any residence during the three years preceding commencement of home ownership assistance. However, a single parent or displaced homemaker who, while married, owned a home with a spouse (or resided in a home owned by a spouse) is considered a “first-time homeowner”.
3. Lendable Credit - Each family must have credit that will enable them to secure an affordable home loan through a pre-approved lender. As a program participant, credit repair coaching will be provided to those families willing to work on obtaining lendable credit.
4. Purchase a Home in the Highlands - Our current project will be located in the 200 block of 20 Ave in Longview. Two townhomes will be constructed and finished approximately in June 2012.
5. Down Payment - At a minimum, the participant is required to provide $750 as a down payment which must come from the family’s personal resources (i.e. savings, IDA account)
